Jamesville-Dewitt CSD | Jamesville, NY
2019 Capital Improvement Project

Project overview
The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District completed a $33 million district-wide capital improvement program to modernize aging infrastructure and improve learning environments across multiple schools and facilities. The program included upgrades to building systems, renovations of instructional spaces, and improvements to infrastructure and building controls to support educational programs. Sage Engineering Associates, LLP provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services.
Mechanical improvements included replacement of multiple crawlspace multi-zone air handling units with modern variable air volume air handling units incorporating mixing sections, MERV-13 filtration, hot water heating coils, and plenum supply fans. New galvanized steel ductwork and variable air volume terminal units with hydronic reheat coils were installed to provide classroom temperature control. Rooftop air handling units were introduced to serve pupil spaces in compliance with New York State Education Department ventilation requirements. Dedicated exhaust systems were provided for specialty instructional spaces.
Plumbing upgrades included replacement of fixtures and piping in renovated areas. Domestic water, sanitary waste, and vent piping systems were modernized to support specialty classrooms including acid neutralization systems, solids interceptors, and specialty waste piping. Natural gas piping was upsized to support gas-fired rooftop equipment and expanded kitchen loads.
Electrical improvements included new branch circuits, modernized lighting systems, and technology infrastructure serving renovated classrooms and specialty spaces. Electrical systems were also upgraded to support replacement mechanical equipment and exhaust systems. Fire alarm devices and wiring were extended throughout renovated areas.
The improvements significantly modernized the district’s building infrastructure, improved ventilation and indoor environmental quality for students and staff, and replaced aging systems with reliable, energy-efficient mechanical and electrical equipment designed for long-term operation.
Engineering the human environment.
