Evan C. Walden, PE

Principal

Mr. Walden founded Sage Engineering Associates, LLP in 1996. He has over 50 years of Mechanical Engineering experience. He is a past President of the local ASHRAE chapter and worked at the national level on ASHRAE Standards. Like all of the Principals of Sage Engineering, he is actively involved in the design of new facilities, renovations to existing buildings and systems, and forensic investigations related to buildings. His expertise includes HVAC systems, plumbing, fire protection, central utility plants, industrial air pollution and dust collection system design, and energy conservation systems. He serves as a technical advisor on complex problems related to the above.

He has published papers, conducted investigations and led seminars on Indoor Air Quality problems. Mr. Walden has taught numerous courses on ventilation system design, statistical process control, lead hazard training, confined spaces training, and indoor air quality assessment and remediation.

John S. Edwards, PE, LEED AP

Principal | Senior Mechanical Engineer

John is a Principal and Senior Mechanical Engineer with more than 45 years of consulting engineering experience and over 30 years of leadership at Sage Engineering Associates, LLP. He has played a key role in the firm’s growth and long-term client relationships, serving as a senior technical advisor and program manager for major institutional clients. His expertise includes HVAC systems, central utility plants, building controls, plumbing and fire protection systems, laboratories, and energy infrastructure. John leads proposal development, project scoping, contract administration, and technical review for large engineering service contracts while providing guidance and oversight to project teams throughout design and construction.

David Layton, PE, LEED AP

Principal | Mechanical Engineer | Firm Leader

David is a Principal and Mechanical Engineering Group Manager at Sage Engineering with more than 30 years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for institutional and industrial facilities. He provides firmwide leadership in design, quality control, and coordination and serves as a senior technical advisor on complex projects. His expertise includes sustainable design, heat pump systems, decarbonization strategies, central plant design, campus energy distribution, and modernization of steam, high-temperature hot water, and chilled water systems. He also serves as the firm’s internal authority on building codes and client design standards.

Michael Meyers, PE

Principal | Senior Electrical Engineer | Group Manager

Michael is a Principal and Electrical Engineering Group Manager at Sage Engineering with nearly 30 years of experience in electrical systems for institutional, residential, and campus facilities. He provides firm leadership in electrical design, coordination, and quality control and serves as a senior technical resource for complex power distribution and life safety systems. His expertise includes medium-voltage distribution, high-density residential electrical infrastructure, integrated life safety systems, and advanced building technologies such as networked sub-metering and lighting controls. He specializes in complex service sizing, resilient power distribution, and coordination of electrical systems with mechanical and architectural requirements.

Gregory R. Kirkpatrick, PE, LEED AP

Greg is a Principal at Sage Engineering with more than 30 years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for institutional, commercial and industrial facilities. Proven leader in managing complex projects from planning through construction, with deep expertise in healthcare environments, central plant systems, and system modernization. In addition, he provides firmwide leadership in design, quality control, and coordination. His expertise includes healthcare, sustainable design, heat pump systems, decarbonization strategies, central plant design, campus energy distribution, steam plants and distribution, and chilled water systems.

John Venditte, PE, LEED AP

Principal | Senior Mechanical Engineer | HVAC & Energy Specialist

John is a Principal and Senior Mechanical Engineer with 25+ years of experience managing HVAC system design for institutional and commercial facilities. He specializes in translating sustainability goals into practical solutions, including all-electric HVAC systems, hydronic networks, and energy recovery ventilation. John is also recognized for his expertise in BIM and advanced Revit coordination, enabling highly integrated project delivery. His background in mechanical contracting leadership brings a pragmatic perspective to the design and construction of campus housing and infrastructure projects.

Kevin is a Principal and Structural Engineering Group Manager at Sage Engineering Associates, LLP with 15 years of experience in the design and analysis of structural systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, and industrial facilities. His work includes structural design for both new construction and renovations of existing buildings, with particular expertise in integrating structural solutions with complex mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Russell is a Principal and Mechanical Engineering Group Manager with 30+ years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design for advanced technology, research, healthcare, and institutional facilities. His work focuses on complex controlled environments including electronics cleanrooms, lithium battery dry rooms, research laboratories, and pharmaceutical processing spaces. He leads multidisciplinary design teams, coordinates engineering disciplines, and manages projects from conceptual design through construction.
